The student team of the Technische Universität München has won the Linpack-award at the Student Cluster Competition 2015. One of the German students is Michael Zellner, employee at FluiDyna GmbH. Zellner and his five fellow students were qualified as the only European team for the competition which took place in Austin, Texas, on November 16 and 17, 2015.

The German students achieved 7.134 Teraflops in the HPL benchmark run on a tailored RSC Peta Stream cluster and thus won the High Performance Linpack (HPL) award.„We are very proud of winning the award“, says Zellner. „In the past weeks, we used every free minute for preparation. But our efforts were all worth it”. The team can not only be proud of the HPL award, but also of the third place that it has reached in the overall assessment of the Student Cluster Competition 2015. In a real-time, non-stop, 48-hour challenge, the team had to assemble a small cluster and to complete a real-world workload across a series of applications. In doing so, it had to be faster than the other eight adverse crews.

The Student Cluster Competition was held as part of the Super Computing Conference 2015. It allows highly talented students to show their skills to experts of the international HPC industry. FluiDyna sponsored T-shirts for Zellner and his team.
