By popular demand FluiDyna again offers a three-day introductory course into OpenFOAM® at the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum in Garching near Munich from Monday, July 18 to Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

The course is intended for new users who want to learn the basic concepts of the usage of OpenFOAM® and wish to know how to modify existing applications or add new functionalities.

Among others the course covers the topics:

  • Introduction to working with Linux
  • OpenFOAM® file structure and case setup
  • Setting up and running simulations
  • Evaluating and visualizing results with ParaView
  • Selection of numerical methods
  • Creating and converting meshes
  • Computing in parallel and acceleration on GPUs
  • Implementation of new methods
  • Advanced topics in OpenFOAM®

The course is held from 9:00 to 17:00 each day and will be comprised of approximately 4 hours of lectures and 3 hours of hands-on sessions, the language is English.

General knowledge of CFD (finite volume method, discretization schemes etc.) is recommended. Programming skills in C++ are beneficial, but not essential for this course.

The course fee for participants from profit-oriented companies is 1,500 Euro plus VAT including the catering for lunch, drinks and coffee breaks, the course material and a USB stick with pre-installed Linux and OpenFOAM®. Members from German universities and public research institutes are eligible for the special quota of LRZ. The course fee for participants from universities and public research institutes within Europe or PRACE is 375 Euro plus VAT (75% discount from the full course fee), the course fee for members of other universities, public research institutes and nonprofit organizations is 750 Euro plus VAT (50% discount from the full course fee).
